Burnley vs. Hull City

Graham Alexander scored with a debatable penalty and Geovanni then saw a brilliant free-kick controversially chalked off before picking up two yellow cards in a matter of minutes.

Brown needed a win like never before but his side didn't even come close and it now seems inevitable that he will lose his job for what has been a woeful campaign so far.

To make matters worse Geovanni had a free kick disallowed for a foul midway through the second half and was then sent off for his second bookable offence after lunging at Steven Fletcher.

The spot kick came when Stephen Hunt clumsily brought down Tyrone Mears after a fine pass from Elliott.

The Hull players surrounded the referee but Alexander kept his cool and blasted the ball into the bottom-left corner of Duke's goal to give the hosts the lead.

Soon after taking the lead, the Clarets decided to go ahead and push forward to double their advantage, and Brown's charges were put under increasing amounts for pressure.

A few minutes later, a free-kick from Geovanni went into the back of the net, but Hull were denied on that occasion as the man in charge saw a foul in the wall just before the Brazilian took the shot. The 29-year-old talked his way into the book, as he was unhappy with the decision. The displeasure at having a goal disallowed crept into his game, as a late tackle on Steven Fletcher left the referee with no choice but to send the player for an early shower.

Stuttering defence from Hull City players gave Alexander space to unleash his second goal from just outside the penalty box and into the left corner, making it a 2-0 lead with just 13 minutes remaining.

As the referee brought the game to a close, defeated Brown struggled to control his anger and alleged the Chester official had cost his team at least a point by disallowing a Hull goal, giving Burnley a penalty and then sent off Geovanni in a controversial win for the home side.
